This November photoshoot with Lydia and her horse Alaska was a true celebration of partnership, heritage, and the beauty of autumn. Set at Lydia’s home—a stunning equestrian property—the entire session felt calm, grounded, and completely authentic to them both.
Alaska, or “Ally” as he’s affectionately known, is a golden oldie and has been by Lydia’s side for over 10 years. Their bond is something you instantly feel the moment you see them together. They know each other inside out—every look, every movement, every quiet pause speaks of years spent together.
Photographing a partnership like that is incredibly special, because nothing needs to be forced; it’s already there.
As a hunter, autumn was the perfect season for this shoot. Ally was looking his absolute best—gleaming coat, strong and fit, and clearly in prime condition ready for the season ahead. The rich autumn tones complemented him beautifully, adding depth and warmth to every frame and really highlighting his presence.
Shooting at Lydia’s home made the session even more personal. Familiar surroundings always help horses relax, and Alaska looked completely at ease throughout. We moved gently around the property, making the most of the seasonal colours and natural light to create images that felt timeless and understated.
To complete the quintessential country portrait, Lydia also included her black Land Rover Defender and her fox red Labrador Retriever, Gina. Together, they added the final layer to the story—classic, practical, and full of character. Gina, of course, was more than happy to be involved, bringing a little softness and personality to the shoot.
This session was all about honouring a long-standing partnership and a way of life shaped by the seasons. Lydia and Alaska’s autumn shoot felt effortless, meaningful, and quietly powerful—a perfect reflection of their journey together and the season that suits them so well. 🍂🐎✨
