Lucy with Harry, Alfie & Hattie

This autumn photoshoot with Lucy and her horses was one of those sessions that stays with you long after the camera is put away. Taken in November on Lucy’s family farm high up on the Mendip Hills, it was emotional, meaningful, and incredibly powerful.

Lucy booked this shoot after speaking with another client of mine, both shared a quiet conversation about how special the photos are after all is said and done—having horses who have sadly reached an age where they may not see through another winter the time for their photoshoot is now.

It’s a heartbreaking reality that so many horse owners face, and one that is never taken lightly. I completely understand that decision, and I want to say this clearly: if you tear up during a shoot like this, you are never on your own, I've been there. These moments matter, and they deserve to be honoured.

The focus was of the shoot was on capturing memories—real, beautiful, lasting memories that Lucy and her family can hold onto forever.

Lucy’s style is unapologetically cowboy-ish, and my job was to absolutely let that shine through, we leaned fully into it. Against the rugged landscape of the Mendips and the moody November light, it created a strong, atmospheric feel that suited both Lucy and her horses perfectly.

Alfie is Lucy’s golden boy—her heart horse. Owned, hunted, and loved for many years, the connection between them is undeniable. Every image of the two together feels heavy with history and trust, and capturing those moments was incredibly special.

Hattie—Lucy’s relatively new ride. A gorgeous, gentle little mare with so much potential, she represents the future chapters still to come and the joy that lies ahead.

And then there's darling Harry, Lucy’s youngster, who provided us with such a giggle he is a completely different energy. Bought as a foal, he’s brimming with personality and curiosity, bringing lightness, fun and sooooo much character to the shoot.

At their image viewing, Lucy and her mum were completely overwhelmed—in the best possible way. They chose one of my favourite frame options: a large 4-in-1 frame, alongside a beautiful panoramic frame featuring all three horses together. A timeless way to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to what’s next.
