Lets start at the very beginning of this amazing journey, It all started at secondary school when it came to the time where I was told I had to decide which subjects I was going to be choosing to study for my GCSE's. Given much debate I decided it was important to have a mix of subjects from ones I enjoy (photography) to those that will be 'useful' for the future (French, Geography and Food Tech). I went on to scrape a pass in all my exams (Maths and science don't come naturally to me in the slightest! When am I going to be using algebra? definitely hasn't come to use yet but anyway that's a rant for another day) except photography which I was thrilled at to see I had achieved an A* in (A*'s are grades of dreams in my head!). So having left school I was then in the great debate of College or apprenticeships. Initially my mind was set on going to college with no real aims for what I would like to do, (I started interested in interior design however on realising that would mean I would probably have to move away from the countryside this was soon crossed off the list). My dad then approached me having seen an apprenticeships open evening at Bridgwater and Taunton College, after much persuasion and having seen that there was a photographers attending I decided to go and take a look. The rest is history, I started an apprenticeship for a well known family photography studio in Bridgwater and having completed my level 2 customer service course and Level 3 Business Administration course in 2 years at Strode College, I was then offered a full time job and have now been working there for over 5 years! Here is where it gets juicy! Having thought about it for some time, I decided to make the jump and start investing my savings in camera kit, a new laptop (my 7 year old laptop definitely couldn't cope with photo shop!), software and all the essentials for me to start practising and getting experience to start my business. Having photographed my darling Mum, cousin and friends numerous times, I decided it was time to start creating a website. I have always been very careful over how much money I spent, as setting up this business was a massive gamble for me. So everything I could do myself, I have done- from website design to marketing and designing flyers to put up throughout the community. Many, many hours are spent perfecting and adjusting but I have learnt so much and am so so proud to be able to say everything I have created is truly my work. Almost 2 years ago, on the 13th October 2018, I decided I would take the plunge and create a business from my two most precious passions horses and photography. And with that SJE Photography was born, these last 2 years have been amazing and as a community we have grown so so much and for that I am ever grateful. You are all doing a unbelievable job! I have photographed double the quantity of photo shoots this year to last whilst keeping up the high quality service I guarantee to provide and I would love for this to keep multiplying so please, please keep spreading the word and telling all your lovely friends about what I do. This year, I am aiming to work on some autumn/winter style photo shoots to allow me to capture the beautiful winter months too so keep your eyes peeled on my Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on this as I will be looking for some models to start photographing winter style shots with nearer the time! Don't worry, I have some idea's for venues for when the fields are just TOO muddy! Comments are closed.
