LIFE through THE BLOG

Stephanie & the mares and foals of 2024

28/6/2024

' I look at the photos that Sophie did for us every day and am so glad that we captured that moment in time with our two foals. Her relaxed and enthusiastic manner brought the best out in me despite the fact that I don’t really like having my photo taken. The results were just gorgeous photos of me with my horses and foals and a very difficult choice to make of which ones to keep. Thank you for your patience Sophie ' - Stephanie

This photoshoot had all of the cuteness!
The foals are so special to Stephanie, bred out of their gorgeous mares these two are simply scrummy.

I'm often asked my approach to photographing foals, as anyone who has handled foals will know... they have a mind of their own which personally I think makes the shoot even more fun. However I've found the key to photographing them a their best, is keeping them relaxed and comfortable, in fields they know. I appreciate it isn't always possible but when we can it definitely helps!

I was particularly spoilt during this shoot with long grasses and beautiful hedgerows in some parts of the field. Another key to handling them is keeping the Mare close at all times! Keeping the comfort of Mum nearby, means snack breaks are definitely on the cards but that's totally fine!

I always allow at least 2 hours for a photoshoot and if I know there are foals too I allow a little bit longer just in case we need it.

Obviously we had to grab a handful of photographs with the dogs too!

As you will have read in her review, Steph was nervous about stepping in front of the camera and it took a lot of courage to do so. This is TOTALLY normal, I think it's more unusual when someone isn't nervous but I promise as soon as we start the nerves melt away. Let'd be honest it's mostly about the horses so we focus on them and once they are in position, I gently pose you so you are looking your best too!

Fortunately for you lovely people, these gorgeous fillies will be up for sale later in the year so if you are interested in taking one of these little cuties home with you, send me a message and I can get you in touch with Stephanie for more info.

As we captured these images both the mares and foals were absolute superstars! We had lots of breaks, giving them time to process what was going on and followed their lead.

At the end, Stephanie mentioned about her special pony she has had for over 20 years so I suggested we captured just a few photographs of the two of them together. Initially Steph said she wasn't too worried but with a bit of convincing from her daughter, Caitlin and myself she agreed!

When Stephanie saw the images at her in person viewing she was so pleased with them and actually chose the one below to go in a big frame of it's own!
It was yet another gorgeous shoot this summer and was a pleasure to photograph!

Hey or should I say hay!

I'm Sophie,  rural life photographer and lover of all things country and horses.
Creating beautiful photographs of you and the four legged love of your life is my absolute passion. As a keen horsewoman from the age of 3 years old, I can hand on heart say that horses are my favourite thing on this earth, closely followed by my love of capturing the connection between animals and their humans . I adore being out in the fresh air, enjoying all things country from tweed and fashion to long walks and views. Tell me more...
