Making the most of your photo shoot…

2/4/2020

When a client contacts to book a shoot with me we have an initial chat about what they would like from the shoot and who will be included. This is not the pre-shoot consultation, that happens a little later, a week or two before the shoot date. One of the reasons for this is to discuss our locations, outfits, timings and any questions they may have.
Many of my clients have a few questions in their head, but are not sure how to ask them, for example: ...
  • What happens if it rains on my shoot day?
  • What happens if my horse/pony is really naughty?
  • What outfits should I bring?
  • How many outfits am I allowed?
  • What should my horse be wearing?
  • Should I plait my horse?
  • Should I have a helper?
This is truly a once in a life time experience and these images I create for you are timeless pieces. These are the images that are displayed and hung in your home for decades to come so you can look back and remember that cheeky pony, or  special horse (we all have them). If you don’t get the outfits and location right then you’ll kick yourself. The outfit choices, I suggest filling your boot or tack room full of your favourite clothes and accessories and I will help style the outfits to the location on the day. Of course, if you are lucky enough to keep your horse at home with you then I can be released upon your wardrobe!
My first answer to anyone who questions the location of the shoot is always ‘at home’ if you can. This doesn’t have to be your house, but it needs to be ‘home’ for you and your horse. Some of you are of course lucky enough to keep your beloved horses at home so we have the run of your stables and sometimes the gardens, but for most this includes where you spend probably 50% of your time, your livery yard.  Having the images taken at the home of your horse adds to the authenticity of each shot. It’s to remember where you spent those hours, your horses stable, field and the walk that you take daily with them. These are the moments and memories you want to capture forever.

Hey or should I say hay!

I'm Sophie,  rural life photographer and lover of all things country and horses.
Creating beautiful photographs of you and the four legged love of your life is my absolute passion. As a keen horsewoman from the age of 3 years old, I can hand on heart say that horses are my favourite thing on this earth, closely followed by my love of capturing the connection between animals and their humans . I adore being out in the fresh air, enjoying all things country from tweed and fashion to long walks and views. Tell me more...
